Gardening with arthritis

As my mom has gotten older, her hands limit what she can do in the kitchen and in the garden.  One of the tools that can help is a pair of ratchet pruners.  I have seen some at the MN State Fair,  but when it isn’t fair time and I need a pair for a gift,  I turn to Cutco or Gardener’s Supply for ratchet pruners.

The way ratchet pruners work is by squeezing the handles several times.  They require very little strength, just a repeated squeezing motion.  Each time you squeeze they cut a little further, until you have cut through a branch or stem.  If you don’t have a great deal of hand strength, or have hand pain, they are just the ticket to continue being able to cut and prune thicker branches in your garden.
